Robredo expected as city opens title retention bids

TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Interior Secretary Jessie Robredo is expected to grace the opening of the 2012 Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association today, Tuesday, at the newly refurbished Kalinga Sports Complex.
Hostilities in the annual regional sports meet as Kalinga Governor Jocel Baac and other provincial officials set to formally open the weeklong sporting spectacle in the region.

The 575-strong delegates from Baguio City is eying another stellar performance in its aim to retain the over-all title in both high school and elementary division.
Baguio athletes, close to 400 individuals, will comprise bulk of the delegates which will also include 60 coaches, 115 co-coaches, trainers, chaperons and delegates from the Department of Education Baguio and officiating officials.
The Summer Capital high school best will be defending their title in the archery girls, arnis boys and girls, athletics boys and girls, badminton boys and girls, basketball boys and girls, boxing, chess girls, football, men’s artistic gymnastic, and women’s artistic gymnastics.
Also leading the way for Baguio’s title retention are significant victories in sepak takraw, swimming boys and girls, table tennis girls, taekwondo boys and girls, tennis girls and volleyball girls.
Baguio’s elementary squad took the championship in arnis boys and girls, athletics boys and girls, badminton boys and girls, basketball, chess girls, football, men’s artistic gymnastics, women’s artistic gymnastics and rhythmic gymnastics.
City bets also retained the title in swimming for boys and girls, table tennis boys, taekwondo boys and girls, tennis boys and volleyball boys.
Benguet placed second in the overall standings in the elementary level while Mountain Province placed third as Kalinga and Abra were at number four and five, while Ifugao and Apayao came in sixth and seventh in the 2011 overall standings.
Baac, who is also the chairman of the Cordillera Regional Development Council, earlier reported the preparation works of the provincial sports complex have been completed and ready for the various sports competition.
