UC LADY Jaguars withered a later rally by ACMW to retain its women’s title at the close of the Miners Cup 3, 59-57, at the BCNHS gym recently.
The Lady Jaguars almost bungled a 13-point advantage with 7:54 remaining in the pay-off canto before going on down cold as ACMW, composed of former Lady Jaguars gone hot with a 16–4 run in the next five minutes of the ball game.

From a nine-point lead at the close of the third period, 47-36, the Lady Jaguars started strong early in the fourth period to post their biggest lead of the ball game, 51-38, with 7:54 remaining in the pay-off period.
Juvy Barroga of ACMW then led her squad in that 16-4 run with 11 points to stare at a one-point deficit, 55-54, with 2:42 remaining of the tournament hatched by the SLU Boys High Club 7882 supported by Philippine Mining Safety and Environment Association.
The Lady Jaguars finally broke that five minute slump and doused ACMW’s run courtesy of a short stab by Maria Rubylle Ramos to put them on top by three, 57-54, with 1:07 remaining followed by a jumper from a Karla Dioquino jumper for a 59-54 count with less than a minute remaining.
With both squads failing to convert in their next possession, Barroga buried another triple with 19.4 seconds remaining in the ball game as ACMW came within two, 59-57.
But that proved to be the final score for both teams as the Lady Jaguars held on to the ball until the final buzzer.
Dioqiuno finished with 15 points, while Jessica Mae Pinigil added 14 as women’s division most valuable player Olive Alcantara finished with 11 points.
Barroga led all scorers with a game high of 23 points, while Mary Jane Estipular and Catherine Camilo added 10 points each.
UC actually ended the first period with an 11 point edge, 18-17, but ACMW came within five in the 7:28 mark of the second period, 20-15.
