IT’S AS good as signed.
That’s how Shape–Up Boxing Gym owner Anson Tui Co confirmed the upcoming boxing event he has been planning as part of the city’s month-long charter celebration.
And former light flyweight champion Rodel Mayol has agreed to be the main event of the boxing match as they woo two more boxers in featherweight Ernie Sanchez and super bantamweight Dodie Boy Penalosa Jr. as one of the undercards.
“It’s as good as signed,” said Tui Co of the upcoming boxing event.
However, Tui Co said they are still under negotiation for the upcoming bout with the different boxing governing body for a possible title match.
“We’re eyeing the WBO title sana to be held here in Baguio City but any title fight would be welcome,” added Tui Co.
The boxing gym owner where Manny Pacquiao trains has yet to pick Mayol’s opponent for the September bout.
Mayol is reportedly now in Cebu to start his conditioning training before he comes up to Baguio for a more rigorous training.
Four other undercards are also being lined up for the event, which will be top billed by Cordillera’s upcoming boxers who will challenge fighters from all over the country said Tui Co.
“This will be the biggest boxing match in the history of Baguio City once everything pushes through as planned,” added Tiu Co.
Tiu Co said they will also seek partnership with the Highland Boxing Gym of Brico Santig for the fighters to see action in September. (Roderick Osis)
