Itogon TKD tilt set October

THE mining town of Itogon is teeming with sports events geared towards promoting it tourism in the municipality.
With the success of the first Pilipinas Akyathlon last April and another running event this coming September, the mining town is once again set to hold a tae kwon do tournament which is expected to draw 200 participants.
Dubbed the 1st Mayor’s Cup Tae kwon do Challenge, the event is in partnership with the Bravehearts Martial Arts Institute aiming to bring the sports to a wider reach with its popularity growing tremendously.
“This tournament is a follow-up to our summer tae kwon do clinic,” said Itogon Mayor Oscar Camantiles during a recent press conference.
Several weight division and age group competition will be staged in the one day competition which is tentatively set October 20 at the Itogon municipal gym.
The tournament is open to all taekwondo athletes from all over the region, according to Camantilles.
Expected to join the tournament are former Palarong Pambansa and Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association stand outs with some players coming from Ilocos, Pangasinan and Benguet’s top jins will also join the event.
The tournament will be one of the biggest of its kind in the municipality, James Kidange of the Mayor’s office said.
“We are still on the stage of finalizing the events that will be played during the one day event,” he said.
With the expected influx of taekwondo jins including their friends and parents, the town is seen to boost its tourism once again, Kidange added.
