Team Black stuns leaders in Apache tilt

TEAM Black rose to the occasion by fashioning out come from behind victories during the last day of elimination beating their more fancied and stronger rivals to proceed to the finals of bowling matches.
It was the Green 2 squad that was the first to fall in the Bakers format as Black clamped on them for a 514-374 washout.
The team tallied 1,071 and beat Green 2 by seven pins to arrange the finals show down with Yellow 2. Yellow finished atop the standing with 1,177 pinfalls.
Red 2 fell to Yellow 2, 369-374, on the last day.
Then Black went on to defeat Green 1 in an exciting 533-527 nail biter.
Despite the failure of anchor Pigeon Lobien to hit his spare in the last frame, Boogie Agustin, hero of the team in beating Red the previous week, was six pins short of overtaking the lead of the Black team.
Thanks to Sonny San Pedro, who actually became the surprise package of the undermanned Black, the cellar dwellers made the biggest upset and registered its first win in bowling competitions.
“We were lucky Sunday when we won the bowling games, then won three of four in billiards,” said Black co-team captain and former Apache chief Art Bueno.
It was a day when past chief and co-captain Arnel Delenela joined the serious bowling games after missing out the previous two weeks.
It was also the best game for San Pedro, the oldest member of the Black as the former chief also made his presence felt by actually hitting 80 percent of his spare.
Black 2 faces Yellow 2 for the finals today, Monday, while Red 1, which lost two of its games the past two weeks, will see Green 1 in the finals of the serious side.
Bueno teamed up with Jojo Lamaria to give Black two wins as they upped their win-loss to 5-2 and join Red 2 and Yellow 1 tied at second place.
Red 1 won two of its games to remain on top of the standing with a 6-1 slate and awaits which among the three teams which it will face in finals Sunday.
Black 1 assumed solo fifth with a 3-4 card, after beating Yellow 1 and bowing to Green 1 Sunday. The latter is at sixth spot with a 2-5 card, followed by Green 1 and Yellow 1, which has 1-6 cards and the tail.
