A BANNER field of 40 teams is expected to list up as the third season of the Baguio Day Cup basketball tournament fires up this month.
Organizers, however, have yet to determine the actual number despite the confirmation of several amateur basketball squads who will compete in the different brackets when it opens on August 19.
"The tournament aims to bring effective vehicle to promote peace and order and at the same time a healthy life-style for members of the community, not only in Baguio City but also Benguet," according to organizers.
Teams who wish to join the tournament may file their application until August 16.
The Baguio Cup was conceptualized to bring a competitive level of amateur basketball in the city by awarding cash prizes aside from the championship and division trophies.
Aside from bringing competitive basketball in the Summer Capital, it also aims to establish better rapport among the youth and citizens of Baguio and neighboring Benguet towns.
The tournament will be a round robin format with the top four teams in each bracket will play for the cross over semi-finals with the top two teams enjoying a twice to beat advantage.
Individual awards will also be given to top performing players in the tournament for each bracket.
Interested teams who wish to get registration forms may visit Tea House located at Porta Vaga and may call Edwin Edades at 0917-3454625. (Roderick Osis)
