SLU-LES pulls off win in YMCA basketball tilt

SAINT Louis University Laboratory High School team D used a scorching fourth quarter run to turn down YMCA Juniors basketball squad, 121-47, at the resumption of the 2nd YMCA Cup Invitational Basketball Tournament.

From a 53-31 count at the end of the third period, the Navy Base high school dribblers came torching the pay-off canto and limiting the Ys basketeers with only five points in the last 10 minute the ball game for their second victory in as many games.

Jeremiah Dacanay fired a game high of 16 points to lead SLU with three others scoring 12 points each, Aljon Abuan, Santi Ines and Derek Pieday while Peter Sorata topped YMCA with his game high of 23 points.

SLU LHS-B also pulled off a big win during the weekend, 66-44, crushing Mary Immaculate School also in the high school division with Shawn Aquinsay and Vince De Castro firing away 13 and 12 points each for their second win two outings.

Diether Buting came up with 23 points for Immaculate but were not enough to pull his team and suffered their third setback in as many games.

Mt. Carmel team B meanwhile notched its second victory in two games after stopping Small World Christian School Foundation, 77-50.

Small World actually led at the close of the opening quarter, 12-15 but Mts. Carmel returned the favor at halftime with a 28-24 lead.

From a 39-48 deficit at the end of the third period, Mt. Carmel buried Small World in the closing quarter with a searing 34-6 run that tore the game wide open.

Reynald Baul and Davie Pascua led Mt Carmel with 23 and 17 points each while Charles Castillo finished with 18 markers for Small World.

Saint Louis School Center meanwhile defeated SLU-LHS–E, 71-57, with Mathew Camat and Bryan Estrada coming up with 18 and 13 points each while Winlord Mencio and Ian Chester Mencio led SLU-LHS E with 13 and 10 points each.
