Guariño paces lead in Luisa’s Darts tourney

WENDELL Guariño takes an early lead, scoring four victories and be at the helm of the 7th Luisas Dart Friendship at the Luisa's Cafe this week.

Guariño, in racking up his four wins, leads 17 players in the open side of the tournament, which drew nearly 40 players. He is the biggest winner so far in the one board competition backed by SM City Baguio.

His victims in the race to two 501 competition included Nobert Diez, Alex Maday-a, Jose Ang and Richard Marquez of the tournament, which was started in late 2010 by Luisa’s habitués that include Apache and Jaycees members, retired servicemen and military officers, businessmen and media.

Tied at second spot with a 3-0 card are Arnel Ramon and national team trainee Leo Safoket.

Sixth Luisa's darts class A winner Rudz Paraan is at fourth spot with a 2-1 card.

Monch David, meanwhile, won three straight this week to start his bid in class A with a 3-0 mark, behind freelance photojournalist Carl Tawaan, who toes the line with a 4-1 mark, and beside Dops Munar.

Tournament director Wayne Seo-as and last season's class B winner Heidee Dogupen share joint fourth with similar 3-3 cards.

Retired US serviceman Robert Manriqui, meanwhile, leads 13 other players in class B with a 5-2 card.

Manriqui leads a second ranked Charlie Gayman, 3-2, while Boy Maranan, Boogie Agustin and Rudy Dolce are tied at third to fifth spots with 2-1 cards.

This season, the players will also play in the doubles competition.
