VEER away from vices.

This was the sound advice coming from Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan during a brief courtesy call from Team Lakay following their appearance in One Fighting Championship and Pacific Extreme Combat a week ago.

Eduard Folayang, one of the popular figures of mix martial arts in the country, paid a simple visit to the mayor Monday morning together with team mates Honorio Banario, Kevin Belingon and Jerome Wanawan.

Folayang won over Swiss–Japanese Felipe Enomoto via a unanimous decision in their three-round encounter while Banario knocked out fellow Filipino Andrew Benibe, while Belingon suffered another setback after he was defeated by Korean Soo Chul Kim in One FC.

Wanawan, meanwhile, showcased his superb judo throws and foot sweeps to his opponent and followed it by some vicious ground and pound in stopping Victor Torre via a 2nd round TKO and improved his undefeated record to 3-0 all by way of stoppages, while Torre dropped his record to 6-2.

“Don’t destroy your God given talent with bad vices because I pity Rey Tam who was a former champion and unfortunately he did not have discipline to veer away from drinking,” said Domogan.

The mayor also lauded the performance of Team Lakay as they continue to bring honor to the city and even the region and hopes to see more Team Lakays in the near future.

Meanwhile, One FC is set to change the fight card in its upcoming event as Folayang and Erick Kelly are unavailable due to their commitment to the Universal Reality Combat Championship.

Folayang and Kelly were earlier announced by One FC chief executive officer Victor Cui as potential title contenders for the October 6 event.

Both fighters will defend their respective crowns in the country’s first mix martial arts promotion this coming November.

Folayang is supposed to fight for the lightweight belt, while Kelly and Banario square off for the featherweight crown.

Banario, however, will still see action in the upcoming event and it was learned that One FC is trying to arrange a fight against Japanese Shiroyuki Takaya, a former Dream featherweight champion, while Banario will be fighting against a Russian opponent.
