WBO oriental bantamweight champion Dayer Gabutan and Asian Boxing Council minimum weight champion Metteo Handig enter the two last weeks of their training camp as both fighters gear up for the La Trinidad’s Twin Rumble title eliminator.

Both fighters for the Highland Boxing Gym managed by Brico Santig began training first week of September for the October 13 box off at the BSU closed gym hatched by the LTBM-Highland Boxing Promotions.

"Will have another round of sparring today for both fighters," said Santig.

The Besao, Mt. Province native Gabutan, who holds a record of 18 wins with one loss and two no contest, will square off against Indonesian bantamweight champion Caem Rasmanudin who has a fight record of 15 wins, two losses and two draws.

Handig, a native of Catarman, Northern Samar but now based in La Trinidad, will face former minimum weight world champion Katsunari Takayama of Japan.

The under-card of the event will include RP titlist Alvin “Rey” Tam tangles with Cebu’s Jestoni Pepito in 10 rounds, Stephen Gelawa of Mountain Province takes on Cavite’s Arnel Taganas, the come-backing Nathan Bolcio tackles Mandaluyong’s Armand Casa in eight rounds while the undefeated Rex Wao of Irisan takes the measure of Manila’s Danilo Gabisay over six rounds.

Renowned boxing trainer Joven Jorda urged Gabutan and Handig “to go for the kill” in their Oct. 13 outing.

The promotion is a joint effort of the office of Rep. Ronald Cosalan and the La Trinidad-Mountain Province Boxing promotions. The event is intended to help raise funds for the rebuilding of the 99-year old St. James High School in Besao, Mountain Province.

La Trinidad Mayor Gregorio Abalos said part of the proceeds will also go to a fund for kidney patients.

Bangkok-based businessman Naris Singwancha earlier expressed support to the Oct. 13 Twin Rumble event.

Singwancha, who promoted world champion Manny Pacquiao’s two fights in Bangkok early on in the Filipino’s ring career, assured Santig he will be around to watch the fights. (Roderick Osis)
