Gabutan wraps up sparring for Oct. 13 fight night

WBO oriental bantamweight champion Dayer Gabutan wraps up his sparring sessions and his trainer hopes the fighter has enough confidence to stop his Indonesian foe come October 13 at the La Trinidad municipal gym.

Gabutan will be facing a new opponent in Lande Odin in their 12 round encounter in the boxing-for-a-cause dubbed “Twin Rumble” also featuring an IBF world title eliminator between WBC Asia minimum weight champion Matteo Handig and former WBC-WBA champ Katsunari Takayama.

“Andun na yung level ng confidence kay Dayer. Hopefully ma-sustain nya un hanggang sa laban,” said Gabutan’s trainer Joven Jorda Friday afternoon after closing their 102nd round of sparring at the Highland boxing gym.


Gabutan had super featherweight Ranel Suco as his main sparring partner who is up against an Indonesian champion in Olin with 11 wins, seven of which came via knock out with three loses of the event presented by LTBM Highland-Green Boxing Promotions.

The Besao, Mt. Province native Gabutan will be defending his oriental bantamweight title for the fourth time in the event backed by Smart, MJ Gacad, PureGold, Beneco, municipality of Besao, Mt. Province, Department of Public Works and Highways, Benguet province, and San Miguel Beer.

Four undercards featuring Philippine featherweight champion Alvin Tam of Kapangan, Benguet will also see action in the evening as he squares off against Prell Tupaz of Alabang, Manila in the 126 lbs pounds 10-rounders.

Nathan Bolcio Singwancha, also from Kapangan, Benguet will return to the ring anew after a year of absence when takes on Rizal’s pride Gerald Ubatay in 8 rounds in the 126 lbs. weight class of the event also backed by Lepanto Consolidated Mining Corp., Benguet Rep. Ronald Cosalan, and the City Government of Baguio.

Stephen Gelawa Singwancha and Arnel Taganas battles in the 130 lbs., while Rex Wa-o Singwancha will also open the box-off against Jonel Borbon which will also includes amateur bouts with tickets at P150 for the general admission and P500 for the ring side seat.

The event is intended to help raise funds for the rebuilding of the 99-year old St. James High School in Besao, Mt. Province.
