THE coveted gold medal evaded Brokenshire College and University of Mindanao teams as the 2012 National University Games (Uni-Games) came to a close at the Pana-ad Park and Sports Stadium in Bacolod City yesterday.
Brokenshire, coached by Charlie Hifarva, collected four silvers and one bronze with Anthony Nerza accounting for two silvers. Nerza clocked nine minutes and 42 seconds in men's 3,000m (3K) and registered 15:30 in men's 5,000m (5K). Criselyn Jaro also settled for silver in women's 5,000m with a time of 19:32 and salvaged a bronze in women's 3,000m.
Unheralded Zaida Abada pocketed another silver in women's javelin throw having made a distance of 34.95 meters.
Hifarva, in text messages to Sun.Star Davao, said their men's 1,500m defending champion Michael Constantino was sidelined by a right foot injury after it got hurt during training.
"Mike may not have been able to compete but his teammates were able to contribute medals," Hifarva said in the vernacular.
UM sports director Joaquin Sarabia, meanwhile, bared that Charito Bajuyo, Adrian Linao and April Guiang clinched silvers. Bajuyo placed second in women's high jump while Linao and Guiang both collected silvers in men's and women's discus throw events, respectively. (MLSA)
