Vicente: Carrying on

THE year that has passed was a good one for Baguio sports as its athletes succeeded in their endeavors and saw the reputation of Baguio live to its namesake “Haven for sports.” Although there were some unwanted disappointments due to the loss of some of the city’s homegrown athletes, the best thing about it was the acceptance of the loss and the promise to comeback better.

This is aside from the triumphs they had in the past is a true inspiration of not letting a loss put anybody down but instead let it be a motivation to rise-up and be better.

Baguio sports really boomed in the Year of the Dragon, one good example was the “Batang Pinoy”, Baguio placed 1st runner-up over-all in the regionals held in Lingayen, Pangasinan and bounced back to capture the over-all championship in the nationals held at Iloilo City. A sheer example of how Baguio keeps its fighting spirit and aim for excellence every time, not letting a close call loss to bring them down, instead comeback stronger.

In this year of the “Water Snake,” Baguio sports is not going to have any fresh start as it has already established the path that should be taken. Baguio sports was in a successful streak and the only thing to do is to continue to improve and carry on with the things that was working and patch-up on the things which needs more work.

The very core of the would-be success of the Baguio sports for this year is the continuous belief of athletes in getting better through hard work and the unending support of people who in equal believe in what these athletes can achieve.

It will also be a great augmentation if the people in power - our beloved politicians - would sink in their interest of empowering our Baguio athletes and give them the recognition and compensation they truly and longingly deserve.

Like the famous quote says, for Baguio sports, “There is no way but up,” onward to achieving more in honor of our beloved City, its people and our Family. The best reward we get aside from what we expect is the warmth and recognition of those people who care and understand our sacrifices. Baguio athletes continue and carry on in aiming for excellence, the possibilities are enormous the impact of the triumphs and struggles that are gone through serves as an inspiration and motivation for the younger generation who will be the rightful airs to the kingdom of excellence that is built.
