ALL is well that ends well for undefeated Filipino mix martial arts (MMA) pinweight champion Rey Docyogen as he was given the green light to strut his wares in the upcoming One Fighting Championship (One FC) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Team Lakay head coach Mark Sangiao, in a text message, said Docyogen was given the green light by Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC) to fight in Asia’s biggest MMA promotion for its next event dubbed ‘Return of Warriors’.
“We have ironed out any misunderstandings. We will be making a memorandum of agreement because in terms of legalities, Rey’s contract with URCC is finished,” said Sangiao.
Sangiao added that URCC is eyeing Docyogen to be under its management in his future fights in and outside the country.
Docyogen will face Japanese veteran Shinichi Kojima, a former Shooto world champion and was ranked as the number one flyweight in the world, in the undercard of the evening to be bannered by fellow Team Lakay Honorio Banario.
Banario, current URCC lightweight champion, will battle fellow Filipino and current featherweight champion Eric Kelly for One FC’s featherweight title.
Sangiao said both Docyogen and Banario are currently 80 percent in terms of conditioning and their training regimen will level up this week to reach the peak of their conditioning prior to fight night.
“Rey’s opponent will be a little bit taller by an inch and he needs to defend the ground because Kojima is a good grappler,” added Sangiao.
One FC: ‘Return of Warriors’ features ten fights with top Malaysian fighters Adam Kayoom, Melvin Yeoh and Peter Davis all in action as well as Lowen Tynanes, who is best known for a recent win over the Philippines’ very own Eduard Folayang.
The event will also see the launch of the Malaysian National Featherweight Championship Tournament. Four of the top MMA prospects in Malaysia will battle it out in the first round of the tournament.
