SAINT LOUIS University (SLU) leaned on the two runs each by Sherwin Tauli and Ramirez Paleyan to win their fifth straight crown in men’s softball of the Baguio–Benguet Educational Athletic League Season 26 at the BSU grounds.
Tauli scored a base hit on the top of the third inning after a homer by Joshua Lingwayon to eke out a 7-2 victory against Benguet State University (BSU) during the weekend.
After being down by a single run at the end of the second inning, Tauli hit a double before Lingwayon struck a deep hit left field for a home run as SLU took charge of the ball game on a 2-1 count in the early goings of the third inning.
First baseman Lance Day-asen and substitute Ramirez Paleyan chipped another run for SLU to close the bottom of the third with a commanding 4-1 lead.
“This was one of the hardest championships for us because we have to dig deep in our bench,” said SLU men’s softball head coach Joey Jocson.
Both squads went scoreless in the fourth inning but the Navigators preserved their lead anew with another run coming from Tauli off a double base hit from Day-asen.
SLU then never gave up a hit against BSU in the fifth and sixth inning as Roldan Padios came home with another run for the Navigators which was once again followed up by Paleyan for a 7-1 count.
“We only have one senior for the team but the boys really played well,” added coach Jocson.
BSU actually started the scoring binge in their match –up with Faustino Garcia Jr. scoring a run after stealing the second and third base with SLU committing an error in that play.
Rashed Bayanes scored the second run for the Buffalos.
