THE fifteenth stage of 2013 LBC RONDA Pilipinas challenged the remaining 78 riders with a demanding 34-km tour starting from Pugo, La Union and ending in Burnham Lake.
The individual time trial riders were released one minute apart from each other. Ronald Gorantes of Roadbike PHL finished third with just 1 minute and 30 seconds behind the leader. While 2012 defending titlist John Mark Galedo trailed in second. LPGMA-American Vinyl’s Irish Valenzuela finished first 1 hour, 23 minutes, and 18 seconds.
The race leaders and the jersey wearers competed with a major shake-up. Irish Valenzuela secured the coveted red jersey signifying the overall leader of the race.
“Trinain ko talaga siya para dito dahil sabi ko sa kanya magchachampion kami baling araw,” said Valenzuela’s father.
Ronald Oranza of PLDT-Spyder won the yellow/gold jersey which gives him the title as best youngest competitor under the 19-22 year old category. Oranza also achieved the blue jersey.
Junrey Navarra was rewarded with the white jersey calling him the official virtual winner of the title “King of the mountain”.
The sixteenth and final stage will end today and will determine this year’s champion and the winner of the P1 million money prize in the 2013 LBC Ronda Pilipinas. (Karen Umangay, UPB Intern)
