THE staging of the first True Colors Panagbenga Women’s beach volleyball competition here in the summer capital hopes to make it a regular fixture in Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League (BBEAL).
Rivalry in the collegiate sports is once again seen to flourish in the tournament with Ibaloi Park inside Burnham Park as venue of the tournament set on March 2-3 is seen to draw school members of the BBEAL.
“Masimulan lang to, we will hold it regularly,” said Saint Louis University athletic director Henry Fuentes, who is also the tournament director of the event bankrolled by the City of Baguio and Chadrock Mineral Resources.
Fuentes, also the president of the Philippine Volleyball Federation - Cordillera, said that with its introduction in the annual competitions among the local universities and colleges, it will become a regular feature.
The BBEAL is composed of SLU, University of Baguio, University of the Cordilleras, Baguio Central University, Benguet State University, Cordillera Career Development College, Pines City College, University of the Philippines - Baguio, Philippine Military Academy and newcomer Baguio College of Technology.
“Although we need a permanent venue of the event. We are still looking on that,” he said.
The tougher bracket A of the two bracket competition will see the Big Three slugging it out as they form two teams of two each and to be joined by the University of the Philippines.
Bracket B is composed of, UP-Baguio, CCDC and PCC of the event backed by the Hotel Restaurant Association of Baguio and the Baguio Country Club.
SLU with Colleen Rossi and EJ Daniels is expected to be hard pressed as it battles UC which will parade a tough tandem of Maureen Agudia and Roxanne Almonte, who seek revenge against SLU after it bowed to the former in game three of finals late September. (Roderick Osis)
