BAGUIO Ace driver Carlos Anton, together with five other race car drivers from all over the country, gear up for the inaugural Nascar Race-Ex World Circuit race to be held at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina come April.
Anton, the Castrol-Yokohama-Mark Young driver, will carry the country’s flag in the US, where he will be joined by mentor international racing champion Mike Potenciano, four-time Karter of the year Stefano Marcelo, Indy-lights protégé Michelle Bumgarner and lady champion drivers Gaby dela Merced and Pia Boren.
“It’s all systems go for the whole Philippine Team and we are preparing for the big race this April,” said the six time Philippine Hillclimb Champion.
“I’m so glad the Filipino’s will be part of this Historic race where 12 nations will be competing at the 2.5 kilometers Oval. I know our chances are good because I have the best team mates who will be joining me in the US,” Anton added.
The team will be using full scale 865 Horsepower Sprint Cup Nascar racing machines built to hit top speeds of over 330 kilometers per hour in an oval with banking of 24 degrees.
Up against the Philippines will be a host of nations, including the USA, Australia, New Zealand, China, Singapore and Malaysia.
“It’s a dream come true to be able to once again represent the country on the world stage, the pressure is immense since none of us have been inside a Nascar before but with the proper training in the coming weeks it should be good,” added Anton.
Anton said Paul Manozca of Nascar Race-Ex World Circuit has set up a training camp in Las Vegas with top instructors to get us up to speed.
The Philippine team is currently backed by the Manozca Foundation, ABS-CBN, Fox Sports, Cebuana Luillier, Ford Global City, Philippine Airlines, STP, Prestone, Marcelo Racing, Goodyear, Coral World Park, and Spirit Sports. (Roderick Osis)
