Nomads cleans out Dalupirip fun ride

NOMADS bike group towed the field with seven of their riders placing in top ten of the first Mountain Bike Fun Ride for a cause in barangay Dalupirip, Itogon, Benguet.
Covering at least 30 kilometers of paved and gravel roads, Bogs Mollona of Nomads finished the course with a time of one hour and 27 minutes and win home the top purse of P1,500.
Jose Walitang and Ray de Jesus, another Nomads rider finished second and third with a time one hour and 28 minutes to bring home P1000 and P700 in cash prize respectively.
Winning consolation prices worth P300 wrapping up the top five are Laure Sagalla and Jerson Gimmick.
In the top ten are Fermin Nalitom, Danny Sumeg-ang, Ruel Cacanindin, Ismael Agnas and Stephen Toledo.
Top finishers of the race received medals and tokens coming from the municipality.
“We have attracted 42 bikers from all over and this project is a join activity of barangay Dalupirip and the municipality to attract more tourist,” said Itogon’s executive secretary to the mayor James Kidange
The fun ride is for the development and promotions of eco-tourism in Dalupirip as part of their 68th founding anniversary.
Town officials and sponsors also saw the event as a vehicle to encourage residents to use bicycles instead of motor vehicles in traversing short distance, both as an exercise and to reduce pollution from vehicle exhaust. (Roderick Osis)
