UL stakes clean slate in Panagbenga Cup

UNIVERSITY of Luzon (UL) stakes its unbeaten record while contracting services GWE tries to eke one put against its former tormentor as games resumes in the open bracket of the on-going 2013 Panagbenga Cup 2013.

Unbeaten after five games, the visiting UL Golden Dragons will try to preserve their perfect run in the tournament as part of the annual flower festival by battling GWE, Sunday afternoon, March 24 at the Easter College gym.

Nineteen-year-old Kevin Sespene will once again be a marked man for the Golden Dragons who exploded for 20 points in their 108-98 victory against GWE in the first round of eliminations in February 25, also at the Easter College gym.

Sespene is expected to get good numbers from Christian Aries Caberto and a bunch of 6’3" players that include former CCDC admiral Mohammad Domingo.

Alex de Guzman is once again seen to tow the engineering and contracting services and will drew support from Baguio Central University’s Brent Esteban and former University of the Cordilleras (UC) Jaguar Haynes Acdong.

Revenge will be at the back of the minds of GWE, with a 3-2 standing as they eye another one victory to steadily hold the number two spot going into the second round of eliminations round.

Prior to the 4:00 p.m. GWE-UL tip off, cellar dweller University of Baguio (UB) Cardinals will try to salvage another win against a resurgent Porta Vaga in the 2:30 p.m. schedule also at the Easter College gym.

The tournament was conceptualized to bring a competitive level of amateur basketball in the city and aims to provide a venue for young basketball players to further develop their skills.

Some thirty teams are currently seeing action in this year’s annual Panagbenga Invitational competing in the different brackets.
