Team Torogi eyes stellar wins in Tarlac Muay tilt

FOLLOWING their recent victories in the different muay thai events in the country, Team Torogi is once again set to compete outside Baguio on April 27 in Tarlac City.

Dubbed as “Muaythai Evolution”, the USC muay thai eliminations event is organized by Furinkazan MMA and fitness Station of the USC Team to be held at SM City Tarlac.

Noel Johnson Olod of Benguet State University will spearhead the campaign of the Baguio based muay thai and mix martial arts (MMA) gym where he will be competing in the 51 kgs division.

Olod will be joined by Jerry Canutab of BETI who will be competing in the 52 kgs weight class while Sunny Palado of La Trinidad is set to square off in the 63kgs division.

Marlowe Vergara (68 kgs), radio disc jock Joseph Chase Olarte (65-68 kgs) and Ismael Aquino are the other male fighters for Team Torogi who will compete in the one day tournament.

Bernice Samidan, the lone female of the group who is a two time Philippine National Games Gold medalist and a registered nurse, will also see action in the 57 kgs weight class and will be accompanied by coaches Alvin Velasco, Jay Olod, Cyril Chayocas and national referee and judge Bryan Olod.

Meanwhile, Team Torogi will also feature 2 of its finest kick boxers in Brindle Lee Kuengan (60kgs) of University of the Cordilleras who will be squaring off against Sammy Matthew of Team Unico during the Irisan Kickboxing and Amateur MMA Championship dubbed as “Art of War 1: REVOLUTION”.

Kuengan will co-headline the event with teammate and school mate Shaquille Soriano (57kgs) who will be facing Jay Ban-eg of Team Unicon.

Trained under the watchful eyes of Team Torogi Head coach Brent Velasco and grappling coach Hero Latonio, Torogi will also pit 1 amateur MMA fighter in Darwin Camosol who will test the mettle of Allen Seg-ang. (Roderick Osis)
