PHILIPPINE Nascar team and multi awarded Castrol driver Carlos Anton and his eight year old son Iñigo set records in the recently concluded Circuit Showdown round 2 at the Clark International Speedway.
The older Anton used the venue as a final practice round for his Nascar Race Ex World Circuit debut in May at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina and he showed why he deserves his spot in the Philippine team.
It was another stellar performance for the restaurateur as he smashed his old record at Clark Speedway and re-setting it to 1 minute 4.673 seconds using the Mark Young-Hornitex prepared CRX.
His son Iñigo also set his own record by becoming the youngest ever race car driver in Philippine History at 8 years old. With his father sitting on the passenger’s seat, Iñigo used a 325i 200 Horsepower BMW to set a time of 1 minute 28.483 around the short track even beating a couple of grownups in his class.
“I’m so proud of Iñigo, after the morning heats he was actually beating 7 guys in his class, so he was no 'saling-pusa' in this event. He was able to hold his own against guys over 3 times his age,” Anton said of his 8-year-old son.
Iñigo was awarded the “Youngest Driver” trophy to the delight of the youngster during the podium ceremony while his father stood tall behind him raising the “Best Time of the Day” trophy.
Iñigo is a third generation race car driver as his grandfather Mike, used to race alongside Pocholo Ramirez in the Renault team back in the 60’s.
Anton now gears up for Nascar Race Ex-World Circuit in the US alongside other top drivers from the Philippines led by Stefano Marcelo, Michelle Bumgarner, Pia Boren, and Gaby de la Merced.
The team is sponsored by Cebuana Lhuillier, Fox Sports, Goodyear, Manozca Foundation, Spirit Sports, ABS-CBN, Coral World Park, Marcelo Racing, STP, Prestone and Philippine Airlines.
