FEATHERWEIGHT prospect Edmundo Velasco Jr. is set to join the long list of Cordillerans who have made the region the number one producer of quality mix martial arts fighter.
Velasco, named “The Hitman” and trains at the Torogi Muay thai/MMA, is among the Baguio-based fighters who will test their mettle in the upcoming Universal Reality Combat Championship 23 dubbed “Unrivaled” on April 27.
Two interim titles will be up for grabs in the evening for the featherweight and bantamweight crown set to happen at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.
Velasco will square off against the veteran and former URCC lightweight champion Angelito "The Saint" Manguray of Beefit Pythons Pit of Davao City.
Edmundo got his first MMA win on his debut against Alexandro Anas of Highland Gym last February during the URCC Baguio 5: Unleashed via first round TKO (punches).
Impressed with his performance, URCC founder Alvin Aguilar matched him up with the veteran Manguray (4W-2L-0D).
The 42-year-old Manguray wants to redeem himself from his two back-to-back losses against team Lakay's and ONE FC World Featherweight champion Honorio "The Rock" Banario and Will "The Kill" Chope.
Velasco will go up in weight to face the former champion to show the MMA fans that he can beat all odds and has the ability to become a champion where he is currently trained by his older brother and Torogi head coach Brent Velasco. Coach Hero Latonio is helping him on his jui-jitsu.
Edmundo has an extensive background in kickboxing and his muay thai is world class. Other Torogi fighters signed by the URCC are flyweights Franklin "Mr. Lightouts" Donglay (2W-0L-0D), Alvin "Golden Boy2" Velasco (1W-1L-0D) and Bantamweight Jay "The Kafagway Warrior" Olod.
