BAGUIO College of Technology Atoms scored an upset against Cordillera Career Development College Admirals after winning their sixth and earned a spot in the top four of men’s basketball in the Baguio – Benguet Educational Athletic League season 27.
Trailing late most of the game, BCT rallied to stage a come from behind victory against the Admirals, 105-96, on a Monday evening at the University of Baguio gymnasium.
Atoms head coach Willy Antonio admitted after the game that it was a good win for his team.
"Every key player took up their role, halos lahat sila nag-effort to step-up para agawin yung panalo," Antonio said.
"I told the team na dapat mataas yung confidence nila lahat, wag bababa ang moral basta let's just play sabi ko," Antonio added.
The start of the first quarter was a see-saw between the evenly matched teams as both played a head to head performance with the Admirals taking the upperhand, 24-28, at the close of the opening canto.
BCT’s Jervie Calibo then exploded with an early fastbreak point doubled by a clean three within the first minute getting back the lead, 29-28 before the fiery Admirals unleashed a run of their own in the last five minute of the first half to enjoy a 41-51 lead at halftime.
Kenneth Rapisura than took charge for the Atoms and came close to two, 69-71, after back – to – back triples with two minutes left but CCDC remained steady in their shooting to close the third period with a 69-73 edge.
The Atoms tried to stage a comeback early in the payoff period but the Admirals countered with every baskets before Rapisura got hot anew with his clutch triple shooting to tie the ball game at 79 with three minutes left in the clock.
From that 79 deadlock, the Atoms was poised to steal the game with the Admirals getting into foul trouble.
“Nagkaroon lang ako ng confidence sa tira ng bola, saka teamwork din para magawang libre sa pag-shoot,” Rapisura said who finished the ball game with 19 points for the Atoms who won their sixth. (Mark Victor Pasagoy)
