THE University of the Cordilleras Jaguars simply dominated the University of the Philippines – Baguio Maroons coming back from a recent defeat in the men’s basketball of the Baguio – Benguet Educational Athletic League season 27.
Following their sorry loss against erstwhile leader UB Cardinals, the defending champion was like a well oiled machine by trashing UP-Baguio, 101-53, at the UC gym Tuesday afternoon.
Despite winning their eighth in nine games, the Jaguars are bound to focus more on moving forward and defend the championship.
Jaguars head coach Joey Agacer remained steadfast and confident the team will continue to rally when the playoffs begin.
“Losing is part of the game, sana lang yun ang mag-serve na lesson at the same time motivation na rin to be better next time,” Agacer said.
“We are still eyeing for the win, siyempre history kapag nagawa namin, kaya nga one at a time, ginagawa namin ng paraan para at least ma-improve namin yung game,” Agacer added.
UC took charge of improving the defensive and offensive roll with an explosive 7-0 start before ending the first period with a 29-8 lead.
The defending champions continue to rattle the Maroons with good floor defence and offensive strategies in the second quarter trailing them behind at the half, 58-22.
UC was never threatened from then on and even extended their lead to 38, 60-22 in the first three minute frame of the third quarter to practically take home the win.
“Etong mga bench players namin, pini-preprepare for better game sa next so kapag nagkaroon ng foul trouble sa mga key players at least maasahan namin sila,” Agacer quipped.
Jaguars’ Chad Villanueva mentioned after the game that he is solely sorry for fouling out early on their previous game against UB.
“Yung laro namin nung last is totally panget, lalo na sa akin na nag-graduate dahil sa foul trouble, sa palagay ko malaking kawalan na natanggal agad ako,” Villanueva said.
“Sa ngayon kahit pa sa game na ito pinapalakas pa namin lalo ang depensa, siguro yung match-up kakayanin ko rin na tapatan sakaling magkaharap ulit kami sa finals,” Villanueva added. (Mark Victor Pasagoy)
