BAGUIO’S top tile pushers including from as far as La Union, Pangasinan and nearby Benguet are expected to take their time off for the 2013 Baguio Open Scrabble™ Tournament slated next month.
Players from Mindanao are also seen to join the two day event slated October 12 and 13 at the Baguio Museum spearheaded by the Baguio – Benguet World Builders CLub.
The tournament will be 16 rounds straight King of the Hill and will follow the WESPA rules and use the Collins Scrabble Word 2012 list and the Zyzzyva program as word judge.
Cash prizes will be given to the top four finishers in the open and student/first timer division with registration at P650 and P450 for student players.
The champion in the open division brings home P2,000 while the 2nd to fourth placer gets P1500, P1000, and P500 respectively while the student/first timers division receives P1,500 for the champion while the 2nd placer gets P1000 with the 3rd and 4th placer having P750 and P500 each.
Special awards will also be given to the last placers in both division and P500 each for the highest bingo and highest score.
Over the years the BBWBC has organized the National Championships, Dual Meets against La Union Scrabble Club, The Baguio Scrabble Tournaments, Center Mall Tournaments and the Baguio Centennial International Word Builders Tournament at the Baguio Country Club as part of the 100th year anniversary of the city.
The tournament attracted top players from all over the country including Thailand, Malaysia and then world ranked number one Nigel Richards.
With the several tournament year in and year-out, Baguio is now considered as scrabble hub that has attracted players from as far as Cebu, Iloilo and even Mindanao due to higher prizes, more give aways and more competition.
