IN A vision to make the Cordillera Administrative Region a home of combat sports, Team Lakay hopes to work hand in hand with the different martial arts organizations and gyms here in the north specifically in Baguio City and Benguet area.
Another local promotion in Baguio City, the Fullcon is set to have its event dubbed as “Martial Rule... In Search for Glory."
The event will be this Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 7 p.m. at the Baguio Convention Center.
There will be a total of 15 matches in one night and rest assured the fights fans will enjoy the event.
There will be four mixed martial arts matches headlined by Team Torogi’s Alvin Velasco and Jonchris Corton from Team Lakay as the main event for the mma bouts.
Another bout in mma is a rematch between Franklin Donglay of Team Torogi and Delfin Nawen of Team Lakay. This will be a match to watch since Donglay hopes to avenge his loss to Nawen during their last fight at WXME 6: Total Domination last December 2012 where Nawen won via submission in the third round. This Saturday, we will see if who will dominate this time.
The third match for mma is between Mhel Clinton Remolar of Team Labalaban and Eric Aban of Team Muay Boran at 58 kg division while the 57 kg division is between Patrick Sean Dela Cruz of Altitude Gym and Team Lakay’s Jaime Langwawey.
For the kickboxing bouts, Sammy Matthew from Universal Martial Arts Gym will be battling against one of Team Lakay’s protégés Stephen Loman.
In the senior male division, Junior Angeleo of Universal Gym will be competing against Danny Kingad of Team Lakay; Jonathan Sicay of Pencak Silat in Manila against Brandon Berad of Altitude Gym; and the last bout will be Rone Deliu of Universal Martial Arts Gym against Charlie Alumit of BSU Muay Boran.
In the distaff side, Team Torogi’s Bernice Samidan will be competing against Team Lakay’s Charline Cawed.
A kiddies division will show this sport is also for the younger generations, but with proper guidance and with the support of their guardians. In this event, it will be fun to see Shadrick Mero of Cordillera Martial Arts Gym and Sherwin Bagtila of St. Joseph and Mary MMA School give their best.
This event will have 3 matches of Boxing. Jaybe Ban-eg of Universal Boxing Gym will fight Julius Sominggao of Muay Boran Boxing Club; Wilber Madriaga will be competing against another Muay Boran Boxing Club’s contender Gringo Navarro and the third match will be between Eman Valdez of Cordillera Martial Arts Club and Efrel Opino of Muay Boran Boxing Club.
To complete the event, another combative sport, Muay thai can never be missed. Two matches will be fought between Mico Damag of Team Torogi versus Allen Sigang of BSU Muay Boran and Jerry Canutab of Team Torogi of Benguet Fitness Center and John Eric Angyab of BSU Muay Boran.
We hope for the continuous support of everyone for this local event where our local fighters will have to showcase their skills and will be a stepping stone for them for bigger events nationally and even internationally.
These kinds of events is what for our local fighters need for them to have experiences and exposures.
Weigh-ins were done Friday morning and the participating and concerned gyms and teams will be having their motorcade around Baguio City and La Trinidad in the morning of the event on Saturday which will start at 8:00 a.m at the Baguio City Hall flag pole.
An orientation of MMA and Muay thai do’s and don’ts was also undergone by the organizers and officiating members last Sunday, September 22, to prepare and have a complete knowledge especially the safety of the fighters and fairness during judging. This is a must in these kinds of events to prevent injuries and accidents.
Good luck to all the participating fighters and teams.
We hope for the support of the public for these kinds of events.
See you all.
