SOME 200 athletes will vie for the crown in the first Domogan Cup Baguio – Benguet Inter Employee Volleyball Tournament organized by the Philippine Volleyball Federation and Baguio City Sports Office.
In celebration of Baguio City’s 104th charter anniversary, teams from different government offices will battle to gain prestige and supremacy in the first installment of the Baguio – Benguet Volleyball competition.
Baguio City sports coordinator Gaudencio Gonzales said the event is aimed to encourage different government offices to practice good health by participating in sports such as volleyball.
"Para kasi yan sa mga employees na hilig maglaro ng volleyball at the same time it will be a place for them para ipakita ang skills nila," said Gonzales.
"Actually yung mga ibang kasama diyan dati na rin na naglalaro before, pero para na rin gawing mas malaki yung event inorganize na natin with PVF," Gonzales added.
Government offices participating are the Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Health, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, PhilHealth, Baguio City Hall, La Trinidad Municipal Office, Itogon, Department of Education, Philippine Military Academy, and some participants from Baguio Central School.
"Medyo nadelay yung start ng mga games dahil na rin sa mga pag-uulan last September, pero good thing since nadag-dagan pa yung mga sumali na mga teams," Gaudencio said.
The tournament officially opened September 20th and will run until November 7, with trophies and cash prizes to be given out for the winning teams for the men’s and women’s division.
Different playing venues for the tournament will be at Saint Vincent gym, PFVR gym, and Engineers Hill covered court.
