SOME 100 runner athletes and sports enthusiasts came in full force for the first C Boutique Hotel 5K Sunset Run over the weekend.
Athletes from out of town and locals joined the running event to celebrate C Boutique’s first year anniversary Saturday.
The racing event was subdivided into male and female categories, where ages six year old and above were welcomed.
Ultra marathoner Roberto “Bullet” Arellano came in first for the male category clocking 22:16; followed by Marcelo Bautista with 24:18; and Jessie Magat on third place with 24:45.
On the distaff, Fredalyn Ramos finished leading at 29:46, while Maureen Corpuz came in second with 32:37 gaining a slight difference from Karen Umilaf who came in third with 32:40.
“First time na makasali sa marathon sa hapon, medyo mahirap kasi usually umaga ang takbuhan wherein mas magaan ang katawan hindi tulad ngayon na nakakain ka na so mabigat na ang pakiramdam mo,” Ramos said.
Meanwhile senior runners such as Jovita Villafuerta, 62 years old, and Angelino Genove, 65 years old, also joined the event.
“Everytime na merong ganito talagang sumasali kami, unfortunately walang senior category pero anyway enjoy pa rin,” said Villafuerte.
“Bata pa ako since nagsimula akong maging runner, kapag mayroong mga ganito kami ang madalas na nananalo sa category ng seniors,” Genove pronounced.
On the other hand, six year old Val Nathan Ferrer was the first young runner to cross the finish line ranking 23rd clocking in 36:24.
C Boutique general manager Andy Mariscotes said apart from celebrating their establishment’s anniversary they also target to promote sports as well as tourism in the city.
“We would like to instill good health habits through exercise such as running, as well as to promote our business and the local tourism as well,” said Mariscotes.
Mariscotes said that they plan to hold the running sport every year and have plans to even develop it into a bigger event.
“We see that this event is quiet successful so maybe by next year we will still host another one, perhaps make it even bigger in the future to accommodate more participants,” Mariscotes added.
Meanwhile, race director Che Alberto said the running event was quite successful not to mention it is a first also for her to head such event.
“The event was quite good not to mention mas marami pa sanang participants kung hindi lang naisabay sa mas malalaking running events,” said Alberto.
“Most of our participants are from Baguio City but also marami din mga participants from other places and not to mention na pati mga guest ng hotel nakisali na rin,” Alberto added.
