RACING for the third time was not a big problem for nine-year–old Iñigo Anton in placing his first podium finish during the recent Circuit Showdown 8 held at the Clark International Speedway.
The Baguio Achiever's Academy grade four student placed second in bracket F category with a time of 2 min 42.426 seconds around the 4.2 kilometer race track and beating 9 other seasoned racers in his class.
Iñigo, son of multi-titled race car driver Carlos, drove a 200 horsepower BMW for his first ever podium finish.
"This is just amazing for us. We are so proud of Iñigo, he truly has a God given talent to be beating guys 3 times his age in real race cars, truly something for the books," said Castrol-Yokohama racing champion Carlos Anton of his son after the race.
Anton topped the time sheets again and even set a record of 2 min 5.046 with his Mark Young-Hornitex prepared CRX but his win was overshadowed by the unbelievable feat of his son Inigo who got the loudest cheers when he stepped up onto the podium where he so rightfully belonged.
"A lot of local racing teams are already eyeing Iñigo to race for them in the future but we don't want to rush him too much, after all he is only nine years old," Anton added.
Another Baguio Boy Paolo Alabanza, son of former Motocross legend PJ Alabanza, also made his way into the winners circle by placing 3rd in the highly competitive “Bracket C” outclassing more seasoned veterans.
Alabanza is also a junior driver at only 16 years old.
The Antons are backed by Yokohama, Castrol, Mark Young Racing, Cars Unlimited, Hornitex Laminated flooring, Special Stage, Home Outlet and Autoshack.
