TEAM PhilHealth scored their second straight win taking control of the last two sets to snatch a 15-25, 25-15, 25-9, victory against the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in women’s volleyball of the 1st Domogan Cup Baguio – Benguet Inter Employee Volleyball Tournament 2013.
Augie Perl Simangan held the fort for PhilHealth scoring 25 big points to boost their title bid in the on-going eliminations at the Saint Vincent gym Tuesday afternoon of the tournament organized by the Philippine Volleyball Federation in partnership with the City Sports Office as part of the 104th celebration of Baguio City’s charter anniversary.
PhilHealth coach Noland Sabling said the team played quite good despite losing the first set to BJMP.
“To sum it up, the team started it right and ended it right,” said Sabling.
“Medyo ninerbiyos lang ang players noong una, pero habang tumatagal naman eh nakukuha na nila yung tamang rhythm ng laro,” Sabling added.
Team BJMP never wasted their chance in leading their opponents early by dominating the offensive attacks leaving Team PhilHealth unfastened with their defense and commit errors in the first set.
PhilHealth bounced back early in the second set with a 4-1 lead, as Simangan continue to smash the ball into their opponents courtside.
But BJMP challenged the team to go back into the game to tie the score at 6-6, forcing PhilHealth to commit errors.
Despite the errors, PhilHealth rallied towards the end of the second set and dropped a 14 – 8 run to lead 20-14 and tied the ball game at one set a piece.
PhilHealth carried their momentum going into the third set to douse BJMP and flourish in a landslide victory.
“Nagkaroon ng konting pressure after naming matalo noong una, pero minotivate lang ang mga kasama to work harder sa teamwork,” Simangan said.
“Sinabi na dapat maganda ang receive at huwag hayaan mamatay ang bola,” added Simangan.
