DEPARTMENT of the Interior and Local Government volleybelles recovered from a slow start and escaped La Trinidad, 25-27, 27-25,25-17 in the ongoing 1st Domogan Cup Baguio – Benguet Inter- Employee Volleyball Tournament at the St. Vincent gym.
Cielo Abella came through with 15 points to lead the lady spikers from DILG in the tournament organized by the Philippine Volleyball Federation in partnership with the City Sports Office.
DILG team captain Carmen Lardizadal said it was tough win against La Trinidad.
“Medyo nahirapan din kami kasi kahit papaano eh may laro din na ipinakita ang kabilang team,” said Lardizabal.
“Pero bukod sa manalo we just enjoyed playing, kasi yun naman ang main purpose namin dito, to come out and be physically fit,”Lardizabal added of the tournament which is part of the city’s charter celebration.
It was a pretty even start for both teams in the opening set with La Trindad jumping to an 18-20 lead with Ailyn Allan towing the tam.
DILG then rallied to tie the ball game at 24 all but that rally was doused with cold water coupled by errors after errors as La Trinidad closing in the first set.
Bouyed by their earlier first set win, La Trindad stayed in the driver’s seat but DILG rallied back to tie second set at 5 all before finishing off the pesky LT lady volleybelles and force a set three decider.
DILG then pounced on the LT lady volleybelles with Rhia Liza Cabeza, Abella, and Lardizabal imposing their will to seal the victory.
“Masaya ako na nanalo kami pero we give La Trinidad credit for making it a tough game, sa next games we could at least work for a better defense since yun ang kulang sa amin kanina,” Abella said.
Team La Trinidad’s Ailyn Allan scored 12 points despite being a little upset on her teams lose.
Twenty four teams in men’s and women’s division coming from the different government offices square off in the first installment of the volleyball competition which started October 1 and will conclude November 7.
