BAGUIO City scored its first and second gold medals as action in girls athletics takes full throttle in the on-going BatangPinoy 2013 – Luzon Leg at the Zambales Sports Complex.
Power house Lea Taltala won a back-to-back gold to boost the city’s standings in the annual sports event.
Athletics head coach DaniloAlimbuyao said his athletes displayed great potential into winning twice on two different athletic events.
“Eto na siguro yung hinihintay natin, kung magiging maganda pa ang laro ng mga bata sigurado madadagdagan pa natin,” said Alimbuyao.
The eighth grader from Baguio City National High School won the girl’s 100 high hurdles and high jump to lead the pack for the city’s medal haul.
“Siyempre naging goal ko kunin iyong first place, para makuha ulit ng Baguio ang overall championship,” Taltala said.
Despite suffering an injury earlier from the 100 high hurdles, the Baguio based competitor managed to shelter an end-to-end victory.
“Pinilit ko na rin na ipanalo kasi saying naman kung hindi ako magpeperform ng maigi,” added Taltala.
“Last year nanalo din ako ng gold sa mga events na yan, at least ngayon nagawa ko pa rin na i-maintain,” Taltala continued.
This year, team Baguio will eye for another crack at the title for the over-all championship in the Luzon leg where they last won as regional titlist when Northern Luzon leg was not yet merged with NCR.
The Luzon Leg of BatangPinoy 2013 that kicked-off last October 15 and will conclude its ceremonies on October 19.
Sisa Marie Carunungan added a silver for the city runners after placing second in the girl’s 1500 meter run, while Reymark Quezada took the bronze also in the 1500 meter run in the boy’s 15 and below.
