Vicente: Wider scope, bigger challenge-A A +A
Thursday, October 17, 2013
THIS year’s Batang Pinoy is slated on a three region cluster regional elimination which made it a little bit of a challenge as the best became better, as the best athletes of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao sees action in a more compact regional selection in route to the Nationals in Bacolod City (Originally scheduled in Zamboanga City) on November.
This means advancing to the Nationals is like going through Nationals already, it is like being included in the “bracket of doom” as they term it in other sports like basketball in a bracket system type of tournament.
The Baguio delegation of 300+ strong are aware of the predicament that is facing and challenging their over-all champion finish last year, and some players know that it is tougher this time the very reason why they have to exert more than their 100 percent to ease the worry of being outplayed.
Here is a competition that Baguio dominated which is supposed to be an advantage in terms of momentum coming from an over-all champion finish last year, but everyone is aware that this year, the playing field is leveled and momentum will only be on the side of those who want it more.
Sir Gaudencio Gonzales, sports coordinator of the City of Baguio is a bit worried about the set-up specially with NCR present in the cluster but is optimistic that the athletes in every sports will give their best and retaining the title is not impossible even in the present set-up, knowing that every sport have had their preparations as early as few weeks after the Nationals last year, joining competitions here and outside of Baguio to maintain competitiveness plus the lessons learned from the past Nationals in Iloilo.
Loop holes are more or less patched up ready for another go at the stunning finish in this year’s regional selections in route to the 2013 Batang PInoy Nationals.
In Arnis, the coaches had tapped the assistance of the senior players who bagged the National Championships last May 2013 in Pasay City. Their guidance assistance to their younger successors hopes to be a motivation that would help the young Arnisadors to replicate the successful stint of their Ate's and Kuya's.
Team Baguio left for Iba, Zambales on the 14th of October, as we request for your support and most importantly, we ask for your prayers for the delegation’s safety and success. MABUHAY TEAM BAGUO! GODSPEED!
