Archery hits mark in Batang Pinoy-A A +A

HEAT has finally taken toll to the highland athletes as Baguio City scored only three medals in archery in the ongoing 2013 Batang Pinoy Luzon leg in Iba, Zambales. Cadet archers Loren Chloe Balaoing representing the girls and Jayson Mendoza for the boys division separately secured a bronze medal in the 30 meter contest and silver in the 40 meter while Cedric Edgar Mendoza took the bronze medal in the cub boy’s 40 meter partition.
“Although our archers can shoot well, the hot climate here has a great effect on their performances,” said archery head coach John Hongitan.
Hongitan said the players could be more physically stable if they were able to adapt early.
"Mas mahusay siguro na one week before any competition lalo na for out of Baguio mismo ay magpunta na at mag-training ang mga athletes natin," said Hongitan adding Baguio athletes will compete in the 30, 40, 50, 60, and 70 meters event.
The POC-PSC combined the archery with the Luzon leg to minimize expenses in the coming national qualifiers.
City sports coordinator Gaudencio Gonzales said it is important that team members from archery win in their respective events.
"Nationals na kasi yan eh, lahat ng awards na makukuha nila diyan eh puhunan na natin para sa standings sa overall," said Gonzales.
Together with archery, wushu is also being played as national finals as POC-PSC declared the change of venue for the national championships from Zamboanga City to Bacolod City on November 19-23, due to the previous war against Muslim rebels in the region.
