ITOGON lady spikers toppled team DPWH to deliver their first loss in the women’s volleyball of the 1st Domogan Cup Inter Employee Volleyball tournament.
Team Itogon ended DPWH’s winning streak and snatch a 2-0 set victory, 25-16, 26-24 at the PFVR gym Thursday morning.
Head coach Edwin Carantes said it was a good effort for the whole team.
"Maganda naman ang ipinakita ng mga players, talagang nagtulungan sila para hindi na lumapit sa score ang kalaban," said Carantes.
"We hope na sa next game dadalhin pa ulit namin ang momentum na eto," Carantes added.
Sally Glaceria of Itogon rallied her team with an excellent all around play including seven striking points.
Team Itogon played a superb team effort during the first set behind Glaceria and Judith Fianza who chipped in seven points to lead DPWH by as much as nine points, 23-14.
During the second set, DPWH lady ballers keep close to their opponents with Cielo Abella and Rhia Liza Cabeza digging on the defense, to keep the game in tie, 19-19.
But Itogon smelled the blood as Rowena Fianza and Aireen Fernando drop down six mutual points to run away with the victory.
“Masaya ang team since kami ang unang nakatalo sa DPWH, undefeated sila before so ngayon na-stop na ng team ang streak,” Glaceria said.
“Marami pang susunod na laro so until then gagawin lang naming ang best para continuous ang panalo hopefully,” added Glaceria.
Itogon continues to flourish with their victory after defeating Baguio Central School during their last game, meanwhile DPWH drop down at the number two spot with 4 wins and 1 loss, as City Hall now leads with 5 wins and 1 loss.
