University of the Cordilleras Laboratory High School Jaguars pinned Benguet State University Secondary Laboratory School Seniors A to win game one in their finals match-up in the 2nd Kings College of the Philippines Sports Federation Volleyball Development League.
The Campo Filipino high schoolers silenced a madding BSU crowd, 24-26, 25-14, 25-15, 28-26, during the weekend of the event organized by the Philippine Volleyball Federation.
The young Jaguars rallied behind Aileen Alumno’s 15 points, and take an early advantage in their short best of three series.
“Medyo napagod na rin kasi sila since meron earlier games bago nitong game one, may mga times na nag-rerelax sila kaya hindi nila nagawang makalayo agad sa score ng kalaban,” UCLHS head coach Sherry Ann Floresca said.
“Next game I hope na mas kondisyon na ulit kami and hopefully manalo, do-doblehin namin ang effort sa game two,” Floresca added.
BSU SLS Seniors A dominated the floor during the first set as as Jellian Clave and Wruchelle Wasit heightened their offense forcing errors on their opponents.
But the Jaguars bounced back at the second set making good ball receives as Alumno, Asmah Tuan, and Liezel Mae Liclican carved eight points that tied the set alongside BSUSLS, 1-1.
UCLHS carried their momentum in the third set as they dominated with offensive attacks and rally the advantage of taking the lead, 2-1.
BSUSLS staged a comeback on the fourth set that could have forced the decider set as Clave, Cherelyn Sabado, and Ayrie Alingawad try to dominate the floor.
But the Jaguars knew it was their game to win as Alumno, Vienesse Melody Frigillana, and Tuan rain down the opponents with powerful shots that doused off the fire against BSU.
"Masaya akong pinagbutihan namin ang laro, at aasahan na sa next game ay well prepared na ulit kami ng mga team mates ko," Alumno said.
