ONE hundred four athletes were recognized by city officials during the flag raising ceremony Tuesday morning at the Baguio City Hall.
Following their conquest of the Batang Pinoy Luzon leg, where Baguio grabbed the over-all champions, the young athletes were given acknowledgement coming no less from Mayor Mauricio Domogan.
"We are proud to have this young competitors showcased their talents to represent us in the recently finished Batang Pinoy," said Domogan.
Domogan then challenged every awardee to keep in mind the values that each of them learned.
"I hope that each and one of you will maintain the values learned so it will keep you prepared for the future challenges in your future lives," Domogan added.
The mayor also ensured the payroll for the incentive awards are already in the process to be given early to the athletes.
Baguio City topped over more than 200 other LGUs from the entire Luzon with a total tally of 47 gold, 49 silvers, and 37 bronze and brought home the overall title last October 15-19 in Iba, Zambales.
Meanwhile Quezon City who was the erstwhile leader landed in the second place with 44 gold, 28 silvers, and 35 bronze.
Pangasinan, who dominated the athletics event, ranked only third spot with 25 golds, 25 silver, and 29 bronze. Laguna took the number four spot with 16-20-31, while Manila in fifth with only 16-7-6.
Medallists will represent Luzon in the coming national qualifiers to be held at Bacolod City on November 19-23.
City sports coordinator Gaudencio Gonzales said he looks forward to winning the overall standings on the Bacolod event.
“Siyempre confident dapat tayo sa mga athletes natin, sa nationals magiging mas mahirap ang challenge pero dapat positive lang ang pag-iisip,” Gonzales added.
Baguio is seeking a rare three peat in the National Batang Pinoy games after their strings of success in 2011 and 2012.
