PHILHEALTH walloped La Trinidad in the on-going eliminations round of the women’s volleyball of the 1st Domogan Cup Baguio Benguet Inter Employee Volleyball Tournament.
Back to their winning ways, PhilHealth secured a two set to one victory, 25-22, 20-25, 25-16, to boost their standings.
“Talagang naniwala lang sila sa kakayahan nila, at bumawi from their previous game’s lost,” said Bete.
“Malapit na rin kasi ang semi-finals so we should strengthen our standings dito para makapasok sa top four,” PhilHealth coach Karen Bete said.
La Trinidad lady spikers took an early 4-8 lead against PhilHealth in the first set as Antonette Picardal and Katlyn Guinyawan commanded the floor with good ball distribution.
But PhilHealth’s Augie Perl Simangan and Deizle Anongos teamed up for their team to close the gap at 8-10, with LTB still leading as Ailyn Allan and Emma Colansong came up with nine points to and enjoy 13-20 lead.
But PhilHealth came up with a huge run down the stretch with Simangan, Elvie Luma-ang, and Ely Ong teaming up for a 12-2 run to steal first set.
La Trinidad then staged a comeback in the second set as Allan, Picardal, and Katlyn Guinyawan contributed nine points for one set a piece and force a decider.
PhilHealth then composed their selves in the third and storm to an early 8-1 lead behind Simangan and Anongos’ superb offense.
La Trinidad tried a comeback from their deep deficit, but PhilHealth knew it was just matter of time before they can finish off their rival.
“Importanteng strategy ng team yung palagiang pag-remind na alagaan ang lamang, huwag hayaan na humabol ang mga kalaban para hindi mag-build ang kaba sa team,” Simangan continued.
