GOLDEN Pine Hotel first stringer King Pascual put up a big game with a season high of 27 points, providing the needed spark as the hoteliers clobber Team ISAAC, 96-91, to add another victory in the 29th season of the Friendship Cup 2013.
The hoteliers remain on the winning track as they drained team ISAAC in a fourth quarter meltdown at the Easter College gym Sunday afternoon.
“Hinabol namin sila sa depensa, that is the key factor sa laro today kaya nagawa namin na humabol sa last stretch ng laro,” said GPH head coach Noel Balianga.
“Mabibilis kasi ang mga players nila so we just keep our composure towards the game, sa huli we took the advantage na lumamang,” Balianga added.
Team ISAAC took an early run in the first quarter as Erwin Calixterio and Shane Balnges stepped up with their fast breaks that trailed GPH behind, 13-20.
ISAAC took the advantage at the start of the second quarter but it was short lived as GPH’s Pascual step up the game firing a back-to-back three pointer that put them in the lead, 30-28, with 4:40 running the clock.
But team ISAAC was able to stop the hoteliers and convert as Calixterio delivered a triple of his own that closed the half, 41-43, ISAAC on edge.
The ballgame put a see-saw score in the third canto as both teams tighten the defense, but ISAAC’s Nelvin Tortoga broke the difference that put his team in a 68-69 lead.
GPH continued trailing behind their opponents in the fourth quarter but not until Alvin Alindoza and Dave Stapely exploded under the boards chipping in 12 needed points that gave the hoteliers the largest lead at 86-81 with 4:20 remaining.
ISAAC put the hoteliers in foul trouble at the stretch of the game taking advantage of free shots from the line closing the gap, 92-91, with just 37 seconds left.
But that was the last hurrah for ISAAC as the hoteliers add another five free throws that sealed them the victory.
“Hopefully we can continue sa magandang laro namin, we try to develop better team chemistry para anytime kahit pressured kakayanin namin na manalo,” Pascual quipped.
