Itogon, Tuba share limelight in athletics-A A +A

RUNNERS from Itogon and Tuba sprinted their way past their rivals to take an early lead in the medal tally of the ongoing Benguet Provincial Meet 2013 at the Wangal Sports Center in La Trinidad, Benguet.
Juvy Gali led Itogon’s early dominance in Athletics topping the girls’ elementary running long jump event with a record of 3.95 meters.
Danikah Joy Patras from Tuba settled for second after leaping a distance 3.93 while Clariz Dodon of Bokod salvaged third place with 3.86.
Jenny Rose Bugnay and Janelle Pay-an added two more medals for Itogon after finishing first and second in the shot put event with a distance of 7.44 and 7.30 meters respectively as Denise Lyra Liwan from La Trinidad took the third place throwing a distance of 7.12 meters.
In the elementary boys’ 1500 meter run Benson Awidon from Kapangan checked in at 5:16:42 in finishing first besting Joshua Bahiwag from Buguias (5:18:73) and Marvic Esteban from Itogon (5:32:60)
Tuba runners meanwhile set the tone in the elementary girls’ 1500 meter run after Norlyn Wanawan clocked 5:57:45 to finish first, followed by Lenny Joy Laoyan fom Kapangan (5:59:63), and Chrislyn Cudli of La Trinidad (6:13:97) in second and third places.
The 1500 meter secondary race was topped by Johnny Bilagot from Mankayan with a time of 5:01:58, followed by Jonathan Dulalas from Tuba (5:01:84) and Jordan Tunawe of Tuba (5:02:46).
In the distaff, Mariam Lungab from Bakun clocked 5:47:76 to snatch the gold while Buguias’ Jay-ann Juanito checked in at 6:02:36 for the silver while Freda Alacdes from Kabayan had 6:07:01 to salvage bronze.
