BRENT Esteban and Melmer Guieb brought their 'A' game against Golden Pine Hotel to crush the hoteliers with a 106-88 victory to strengthen their championship bid in the on-going eliminations of Friendship Cup 2013 season 29.
After suffering their first setback via default, the service contractor GWE leaned on starters Esteban and Guieb who fired 28 and 21 points apiece for the team’s fourth victory in five outings.
"We just played our game tonight, pina-iral lang ang good ball rotation and teamwork ng isat-isa,” said GWE team manager Efren Garcia after the game at the BCNHS gym Thursday night.
"As agreed by the team walang 'I' dito sa amin, lahat role player that is why lahat kompiyansa sa bawat isa, yun ang edge namin," Garcia added.
The hoteliers took command in the early stretch of the first quarter as former UB Cardinals Alvin Alindoza fired 12 points via fast breaks, but it was cut short by GWE as Guieb and Jerry Rigos carve a 16 point run that put them in the lead, 25-21.
Golden Pine then came back with a 6-2 run bankrolled by another former UB Cardinal Richard Bilibli to tie the ball game at 27 all with 8:01 remaining in the first half.
A 13-5 surge midway in the second quarter pulled GWE ahead with 4:46 remaining to enjoy a 40-32 edge but Golden Pine stayed within striking distance and stare at a 48-44 deficit during the break.
GWE extended their lead during the third canto as Guieb fired four three pointers that gave them a double digit advantage, 66-55, with 3:37 on clock.
Former BCU Eagles Esteban then picked up what Guieb has started and dropped nine more points as GWE enjoys an 80-61 at the turn of the pay off canto.
“Maganda kasi yung naging pasahan namin ng bola kaya hindi kami nahirapan kumuha ng maganda bitaw,” said Esteban.
“Hopefully kaya ulit dalhin ang ganitong laro sa next game para masaya ulit ang panalo,” Esteban added.
