CELEBRATING the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ this December, and the welcoming of a new year are the major reasons to celebrate this season. In addition to these, there are many reasons for Team Lakay, the Cordillerans and the Filipinos to celebrate this season.
We have fought successfully during our battle in One Fighting Championship “Moment of Truth” last December 6th at the SM Mall of Asia. Three of our four fighters won their respective battles against their opponents.
Firstly, Geje “The Gravity” Eustaquio did his best and showed that being a fighter also needs to be strong mentally and think well during fights. Aside from being strong and well-skilled, a fighter has to know what to do best to win a fight. He engaged, thought and applied a well-prepared game plan. He won via a unanimous decision against an undefeated fighter from Submission Sports, Eugene Toquero.
Secondly, Eduard “The Landslide” Folayang has shown the real heart of a warrior, a much prepared and determined fighter. He needed to prove himself and others that he is still the Landslide that everybody loves.
The hero that everyone admired. He represented the Philippines well, especially in this time of the year, where there are lot of things that happened to our fellow Filipinos in some parts of our country. Indeed, as Eduard had said in his media interviews and his post-fight interview “A warrior is someone who can stand up after he falls.”
Indeed, this had also been proven by our very own People’s Champ Manny Pacquiao and Nonito Donaire. They are some of our inspirations in these fights.
Thirdly, Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon gave a devastating knock-out to the undefeated fighter from Spain, David Aranda Santacana. He gave David his first loss and in a most fascinating manner. No question, Kevin is back. This is the best Kevin that I have seen, and I believe, the best is yet to come for all of these great fighters.
Unfortunately, Honorio “The Rock” Banario had not taken the belt back.
We have prepared well, but as a fighter and a champion, Koji Oishi also prepared well. He executed their game plan well and he retained the belt. For Honorio, he is still young, more to experience and more lessons to learn and with his back to back losses from Oishi, a master in his own right; it is a great privilege for Honorio and the Team to have fought a great champion. Honorio will come back again, better, wiser and stronger.
Another reason to celebrate is the good news that the first Filipino national who will fight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship comes from Team Lakay. Dave Galera will be fighting in the first UFC Asia series, the UFC Fight Night 34, on January 4, 2014 at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore against a Singaporean, Royston Wee.
More reasons are the golds gained by the Philippine Wushu Team in the 27 South-East Asian Games held in Myanmar this December. Three golds are obtained by Jessie Aligaga and Dembert Alcita from Iloilo and Daniel Parantac, who is a student of the University of the Cordilleras in Baguio City. Divine Wally who is also a student of the University of the Cordilleras won silver in the Wushu-Sanda 48-kg female division.
The resilience of the Filipinos was shown these past months. It was all good that nothing went wrong and everything went well during training and during the event itself.
As we all celebrate this season, we should never forget the reason for the season, it is remembering the birth of our saviour, Jesus Christ.
It is a merry-making holidays especially it is followed by the welcoming of a new year. We shall also celebrate for all the blessings that have been given to us for the whole year of 2013.
Before the holidays, this week will be the final event of Team Lakay for the year 2013. The Team Lakay Championship 8 will seal the activities of the whole team for the whole year. This will take place this Saturday, December 14, 2013 at the Baguio Convention Center featuring some Team Lakay uprising fighters and some from other teams and gyms in the Cordilleras, San Fernando, Bicol and Cavite.
The main event will be a bout between Jerome “Torogi” Wanawan and Dindo Camansa of Team Reamico-Biagtan. We shall see if ring rust affects Jerome’s performance with this fight against a tough fighter from Cavite. This also will prepare him for his future bouts in the Pacific Xtreme Combat next year.
The co-main event will be Tristan “The Relentless” Rebuyaco of Lakay Central Gym against another Cavite’s Jun “Uragon” Gallano from Team Lion’s Den- Biagtan.
Aside from the 7 exciting MMA matches and 4 Wushu-Sanda matches of the evening, the fans and spectators will also have the chance to witness the recognition of our Achievers and Champions for 2013. They will have the chance to meet, greet and take pictures with our fighters.
With all these achievements and accomplishments, with our wins and losses, we Thank all those who are always there to support us.
We’ll see you on Saturday Night because, truly, it is a December to Remember!
Matago tago tako am-in!
TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
