SERVICE Contracting firm GWE leaned on its usual stars in routing Golden Pine Hotel, 116-106, in the open bracket of the Friendship Cup season 29 at the Easter College gym recently.
“Maganda ang ball rotation and teamwork ng isat-isa, saka we took the advantage of running up and down sa court” said GWE team manager Efren Garcia after the game.
“As agreed by the team walang “I” dito sa amin, lahat role player that is why lahat kompiyansa sa bawat isa, yun ang edge namin,” Garcia added.
GWE took an early lead at the start of the first quarter as Brent Esteban, Haynes Acdong, and Alex De Guzman dropped 21 big points to close the quarter, 28-27.
But the hoteliers step up on the offense in the second quarter stealing the lead with their 21-13 run bankrolled by Efren Mariano, King Pascual, and Richard Bilibli to close the half at 53-60.
From that seven point deficit at the half, GWE came back stronger in the third period as Melmer Guieb stepped up with his game to retake the lead at 76-73 with 3:43 left in the canto on his big 14 points.
Golden Pine then made it a tightly contested ball game with Bilibli and Dave Stapley forcing their way to the basket and stare at an 86 – 83 deficit.
The hoteliers then regained the lead at 90-92 with eight minutes left in the ball game and proved it was their last hurrah as GWE outscored Golden Pine and suffer their third successive loss.
“Siguro maganda lang talaga ang condition ng bawat isa tonight, masaya kami since ilang beses din kami naghabol sa score pero nanalo sa huli,” said Esteban.
“Sana sa next game magawa namin na pagbutihin pa ang laro, kailangan hindi mawala ang momentum,” Esteban added.
