PAUL Catbagan and Paolo Abriol took charge for the hoteliers, coming through with season high outputs as Golden Pine Hotel drubbed Benguet Electric Cooperative, 118-84, to stop a three-game losing streak in the on-going Friendship cup 2013 season 29.
Catbagan and Abriol stepped up on the ballgame, delivering 40 and 34 points respectively, as Golden Pine bounce back from their losing streak in their recent game at the Easter College gym.
“It’s about time na tapusin namin ang pagkatalo sa tournament na ito, although mahirap ng humabol for championship at least we finish strong sa huli,” said GPH coach Noel Balianga.
“Lahat naman ng players sa team magagaling, this time itong dalawa ang nag-step up ng game nila para manalo kami,” Balianga added.
Golden Pine took an early lead at the start of the first quarter as Catbagan, Abriol, and Alvin Alindoza converted baskets after baskets to lead the team, 34-20.
But Beneco came back strong in the second period with Cris Balares, Alex De Guzman, and Jeff Abanse combining for 22 points to narrow down the gat at 46 – 41 with 3:07 remaining at the half.
The hoteliers hustled back in the remaining minutes of the second period and dropped a 9-4 run to enjoy a 55 – 45 lead at the break.
The power distributors tried to bounce back in the third canto as Regan Nabua step up on the offense, but the hoteliers carried their hot hands as Balianga, Abriol, and Catbagan carved another rally and unleashed 21 points to pull away with an 82 – 59 lead.
Beneco staged a comeback in the payoff quarter but Golden Pine doused every offensive run.
“Manalo, yun lang ang talagang game plan today, at least na-meet namin ang expectations after the game,” Catbagan said.
