DONTOGAN Women’s Association (DWA) walloped Commission on Audit (COA) to secure their third straight victory in the ongoing eliminations of the BCNHS-SPS Invitational Volleyball Tournament 2013.
The DWA lady setters notched a 28-26, 30-28, 23-25, 25-14 victory against COA Friday night at the BCNHS gym.
“Medyo naging dikit ang laban, although malakas ang team ng Dontogan marami kasing mga lapses kaya hindi agad nagawang tapusin ang laro,” said DWA coach Emil Rimando.
Rimando said they will continue to work on better ball movement.
“Siguro kailangan pa na tutukan yung mga strategy sa pag-papanalo ng laro para kung susuwertehin eh makarating sa finals itong team,” Rimando said.
The DWA setters took control early in the first set as they held a 4-1 advantage with COA creating errors.
But the COA volleybelles stopped the run and even tied the game at 8-8 with Raquel Lamen hitting for her team. The teams tied five times during the set before Aurora Daping hit four points to put DWA ahead.
COA started strong in the second set with Lamen taking charge in 0-3 tip, but it was short lived as DWA forced them to commit errors. DWA took the second set which saw the gritty match between DWA’s Joan Castro and COA’s main scorer Lamen.
The COA volleybelles tried to bounce back in the third as they put themselves in a 7-2 lead behind Alpha Consolacion and Julie Bate, but Castro took the game to the next level hitting hard to regain control putting DWA in front, 13-10.
COA tied the game at 22-all as DWA tried to finish early but lost control in the last few attempts.
Not wanting to extend the ball game to a fifth deciding set, DWA had an early 7-2 advantage before COA, led by Lamen, who fired away seven consecutive points narrowed the gap to 14 – 12.
Despite the shift in momentum, Daping came up with eight points to lead DWA in an epic finish.
“Medyo madali kaming napagod this time kaya nahirapan makalayo ng todo against sa other team,” Daping said.
“Sabin ni coach kailangan pa daw ayusin ang better teamwork sa floor para sa next game continuous na magawa namin na manalo,” Daping added.
Daping led DWA with game-high 19 points while Lamen had 16 points for COA. (Mark Victor Pasagoy)
