THERE is no thrill like the exhilaration of winning. Whether it is a hole in one or an ace on match point, a knockout, a full point, or even on a team effort sport, professional athletes or not would like to duplicate those winning performance, but add such unbeatable features then winning never seem more easy and comfortable.

In the sport parlance, idolizing athletes is not new, they have so much to give like young athletes today who put themselves in the shoe of their idols.

They usually copy their style, to the extent of having the names of their idols placed at the back of their jersey.

The thing is, they can never be the same with those they idolize, performance wise, ability, and worst, personality.

It is not wrong to idolize players, but sometimes this affects the performance of young athletes, and worst, their character.

Perhaps the greatest mistake they make is the character generation they do because of superimposing their idols to themselves.

Wanting to be like their idols, young athletes tend to imitate their moves, performance, attitude, and character when playing, thus making them “mixed up”.

Psychologically, they can imitate them, but physically not their abilities and performances. In layman’s term, the mind can but the body can’t follow.

Having an idol is not bad; however, idolizing should not be imitating, but should be more of a motivating factor for the individual to be able to boost their sporting morale.

They should be role models of a good sportsman giving inspiration for one to enhance their skills and talents in playing as well as character and attitude towards and when playing the game.

So be yourself and give it a sporting chance, be the athlete in you, play your sport inspired and reinforced by the thought of an idol, however, be your own person.

You have your own unique personality, ability, character and talent to play a sport. Enhancing yourself in sport is not putting your own personality in somebody’s shoe.
