RUNNING veterans Cesar Castaneto and Jessa Mangsat displayed too much speed to outclass their respective rivals in topping the first Scout Barrio Centennial Half Marathon over the weekend.

Castaneto topped the men's side with a time of 1:20:39 to top the two-faced 21-kilometer uphill and downhill course in the men's category, while Mangsat conquered the distaff after clocking 1:47:00.

Race organizer Gay Hope Ramos said the half marathon is the first time their barangay is hosting such event as part of centennial festivities.

"This is the first time that we have incorporated running to our community’s annual celebration, so far the outcome was supported by a lot of people including those that came from the same community," Ramos quipped.

Robert Arellano finished second with 1:24:22 followed by Joseph Sumera with 1:25:40 to rank third, while Jason Lipa (1:29:35) and Jeffrey Aligaw (1:32:45) scored the fourth and fifth place finishers for the 21K men.

Librada Tamson (1:49:47), Gretchen Felipe (2:00:14), Lou Ann Ramos (2:04:20), and Victoria De Guzman (2:12:31) closed out the top five positions in the women’s side.

Jay Lomyog landed first place in the men’s 10K category after clocking 36:16, with Aldrin Seno (37:13) and Charles Cervera (38:43) coming in second and third spots respectively.

More than 160 local runners have participated in community based running event partnered by Cool City Running team headed by Che Alberto.

The marathon is one of the associated highlights of Scout Barrio’s month-long centennial celebration line-up of events. Also included in the centennial events listing are the search for Miss Gay Pageant on February 8, “Battle of Champions” Drum and Lyre competition and the Miss Scout Barrio Centennial on February 15.
