AFTER six long years, Baguio City is set to host once again the annual Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association meet next year.
Mayor Mauricio Domogan officially accepted CARAA’s banner as it was turned over to the city during the annual meet’s closing ceremonies Tuesday.
Domogan said the city will always be ready to host the annual event considering other supposed host local government units in the Cordillera are not well prepared.
“We keep on telling our co-LGU’s kapag yung supposed host province is not ready then we do it in the city of Baguio, because we cannot forego without CARAA even for one year,” said Domogan.
He also mentioned plans for next year will be addressed properly with help from the Department of Education and the City Council.
DepEd-Baguio supervisor for MAPEH and Sports coordinator Fernando Eleponga said the department will make sure to plan ahead for February next year.
“Ganun naman talaga ang ginagawa ng mga host city or province, we plan ahead so that in time for the event prepared na lahat,” said Eleponga.
Baguio City hosted CARAA back in 2008, where DepEd disbursed P2 million pesos from the department’s Special Education Plan (SEP) budget to cover some of the expenses.
“That P2 million was used for the hosting alone, separate pa yung budget from the city para sa mismong delegations,” said Eleponga.
Eleponga mentioned the department will coordinate with the city in order to come up with higher funding.
“This time since kasama naman ang local government unit we’ll ask help from the City Council na i-provide kahit man lang yung mga repairs and supplies para hindi gaanong magastusan ang pondo ng SEP,” Eleponga closed.
According to Domogan the City Council is still deliberating on the annual budget for sports.
