KCP steals limelight in CHESAA athletics

KING'S College of the Philippines reaped 16 golds, six silvers and two bronze medals to become the runaway winner in the athletics events of the 12th Cordillera Higher Education Athletic Association (CHESAA) held at the Benguet Sports Center, La Trinidad.

The KCP Lancers bagged an 8-1-1 medal haul in the men’s and 8-5- 1 for the women’s division taking center stage in the two-day sporting event held February 12-13.

Rico Cadley and Arnel Kimbongan harnessed the first awards for KCP as they ruled the 100 and 400 meter race events, while Maria Cristina Dangbis, who also took silver in discuss throw, with Debbie Polas ruled the 100 and 200 meter dash in the distaff.

Diana Taquid snatched three silver medals after placing second in the women’s 100m, long jump, and javelin throw. Rico Cadley (400m), Evelyn Bay-an (400m) also earned one silver each, after KCP land atop the men and women’s 4x100m and 4x400m relay.

Allen Catayao and Regina Baliosan took three gold medals apiece as they lorded in the male and female shotput, discuss, and javelin throwing events.

Jordan Casinto and Abegail Imperial added two more mints for King’s College as they ruled the men’s and women’s long jump competition.

“We’re happy here in King’s College that we were able to haul gold medals and dominate most of the events in athletics, actually maganda ang naging performance ng lahat ng mga entries kaya we took the lead against other competitors,” said KCP president Ricardo Umayam.

“Although hindi sa lahat ng events ng CHESAA nag-excel ang KCP, we hope to finish and perform better sa next na season,” Umayam added.

Data Center College of the Philippines came in second place with a total of 4-2-7, BVS Colleges in third with 0-5-4, and NIIT-Baguio with 0-4-4 in fourth spot.

Awarding ceremonies will follow after the culminating program at the Baguio Convention Center this March 3 where the search for Miss CHESAA will also take place.

Other schools and colleges participating in CHESAA include AMA Computer College, Baguio College of Technology, Benguet School of Business and Technolog, Easter Colleg, Philippine Nazarene College, Philippine Women's University, and HML College.
